PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

OSCANN has the potential to make population screening for neurological diseases cost-effective and therefore early diagnosis accessible to all. Thanks to its increased sensitivity and specificity, OSCANN could significantly reduce the current high rates of misdiagnosis: false positive and false negative diagnoses of common neurological conditions, avoiding inappropriate and even harmful drug treatments for misdiagnosed patients. Since most of the costs associated with neurological disorders occur in the later stages of the disease, when symptoms are more severe and there is a greater need for healthcare and caregiver support services, OSCANN’s early diagnosis capability could reduce the costs of these disease’s treatments for European healthcare systems by up to billions of euros per year. In addition, patients diagnosed earlier will be able to take active measures to delay or lessen the impact of later symptoms (e.g., targeted therapy, medication), improving their quality of life.
